On Life Is Hard

We live into our landscape.

Our beliefs are borne from our environment and they drive our thoughts which in turn move our words and motivate our actions.

“We create by thoughts, deeds, actions” Neale Donald Walsh

In rural Australia we live and breathe the boom and bust. It’s in our land and it’s in our language.

“It never rains but it pours.”

What kid in rural Australia hasn’t heard this from a parent, friend, teacher, community leader or in the media?

It’s rife.

“Life wan’t meant to be easy.”

“You can’t achieve anything without hard work.”

“You have to work hard to make ends meet.”

“We live in a tough environment.”

“It’s a battle against mother nature.”

“We love the Aussie Battler.”

“We are in a race against the seasons”

“It’s just the way it is”

“It’s a battle to survive.”

I could go on.

“Of droughts and flooding rains’ Dorothea McKellar

This language flows from our individual and collective belief that life is hard – that it cannot be easy, that there cannot be flow that we are in push and in constant fight or flight.

When we find flow, we cut it off.

I know I do. I know I do this on a regular basis. Just as I am finding my flow the belief that life has to be hard snaps back and I take some kind of action to chop off the flow.

This language we are surrounded by and speak ourselves, creates action to prove out belief that life is hard right.

Flood.

Drought.

Bankruptcy.

Struggle to be heard.

Corruption.

Disengagement.

Despair.

Survival.

Fight for land.

These are the stories we tell, because they keep us right. In a strange way, they keep us safe.

But honestly, do we want to be right and safe or do we want to be free and in flow?

Land of the Rainbow Gold,
For flood and fire and famine,
She pays us back threefold Dorothea McKellar

If we believe we are in battle – we will be.

If we believe it is a struggle – it will be.

If we belief mother nature is against us – she will be.

If we believe we have to fight for everything – we will.

I am tired of this for myself.

I am tired of this for my country.

I am tired of this for my people.

Life is meant to be easy. Life can be easy if we allow it be.

It’s time to believe new beliefs and tell new stories and create a new language – one of ease and flow and grace. Of abundance and plenty.

A language and a belief and actions that guide is to where we want to go instead of keeping us where we don’t want to be.

It’s time to frame up new systems for our kids that empower them with what we wish for.

We must put out into the world what we want; instead of constantly bemoaning what we don’t.

“I love that my life is easy.”

“Everything happens as it should.”

“There is always plenty.”

“I am enough.”

“I allow the flow with ease and grace.”

I choose to believe that life is easy.

I shift my language, I am conscious of my actions; I hear her when she shows up at my door and with compassion and love I let her go.
